Following the thrilling announcement of yet another bountiful number of award nominations, Black Brain Pictures shines its light on their award-winning producer who is amongst the youngest line producers in the continent. Zikona Anam Debese stands out as a multi-award winning producer who is currently heading South Africa’s most loved Telenovela, DiepCity.
Her talent knows no bounds as some of her accolades include a SAFTA for “Best Made for TV Movie” and a Royalty Soapie Award for “Outstanding Daily TV Drama” amongst others. In the span of her fruitful career, she has worked on Thandeka’s Diary, Vula Vala, eHostela, Loving Thokoza, Lockdown, Ses Top La and currently, DiepCity.
“For me this is the beginning”, she says. “May I never lose the excitement of being a filmmaker. I wish to help a lot more people that want it as much as I did and are not afraid to take the long route, because there are no shortcuts. I am the amazing producer I am today because I allowed myself to step out of my comfort-zone even when fear took over. I had to rise above my fears”, she adds.
Reigning from the Eastern Cape, Zikona lost her mom at a tender age and she used her circumstances to push her to being one of the greatest producers of our time. Zikona’s many achievements are impressive, yet, she is still most fulfilled when she is learning more and being challenged. She says it helps her reach unimaginable heights.
