How did you meet?
Was it love at first sight?
No. We had known each other for some years before we got married and it had never occurred to any of us that one day we would be husband and wife.
What attracted you to each other?
Tumelo – The works of the Holy Spirit.
Sonia – Anointing mo ngwaneng!!! LOL
Why did you get married?
We love each other.
How did he proposed?
It was on the 20th of November 2017, six days after my birthday (I know right 😊). He called and asked me to come over to his church. I got there (It was during the day. No one was there) and we had the most awkward conversation of my life LOL! And he eventually popped the million dollar question and said, “Sonia ke kgopela go go nyala.” But then for some reasons I came there knowing exactly what he was going to say to me!
How has marriage changed you?
Tumelo – My decisions are no longer final, unlike when I was still single. Now they have to be negotiated.
Sonia – “I” was replaced with a “We”. I have to consider that all day – everyday.
What has marriage taught you?
Tumelo – It has opened my eyes to the dynamics of team work.
Sonia – Two is better than one!
What do you love about marriage?
Tumelo – Being able to share my deepest trials of ministry with her.
Sonia – Having this human being with a hundred different caps; a best friend, a brother, a lover and etc
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your marriage and how did you overcome them?
Adjusting to a new environment as a newly wedded couple was not easy in the beginning. We both grew up in Tembisa and suddenly we had to come and begin our lives here in LebowaKgomo – a whole lot different environment to what we are used to. But we prayed about it and have had some sound advises. And hey, God has been faithful.
What do you mostly fight about?
Clothes!!! We seem to have a different sense of style, so we are always fighting over what matches with what.
What irritates you about each other?
Tumelo – She is at times too strict over unnecessary things.
Sonia – He doesn’t give me a fight when I want one LOL! He just dismisses everything as a joke.
How do you keep love alive?
By keeping Christ as the center of our marriage.
What do you do for fun?
We watch soccer!
What do you think is the reason for people to not believe in the institute of marriage?
They don’t have an intimate relationship with the author of marriage Himself, and thus fail to understand His purpose about it.
What advice do you have for people intending to get married?
It is not about money, status and physical appearance. One needs to understand that marriage is SPIRITUAL and if you operate carnally, it will fail.
