Durban – Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), has announced a new quarantine and isolation site at Clairwood Hospital, on Tuesday.
The facility has some technological advancements such as a programmed doors which only permits entry to people within a certain temperature and those wearing face masks.
All this work took the department about 2 months to complete.
According to the Health MEC Nomagugu Simalane Zulu, this site will be able to isolate about 154 Covid 19 patients while it quarantines about 40.
All districts in KZN are expected to have at least one hospital reconfigured, that will enable the province to have more beds dedicated to Covid 19 patients.
“In each and every district we have decided to have a facility that we are re-purposing or re-configuring, and out of all that we will have a total of 1 805 beds in the whole province” said Simelane Zulu.
These facilities are expected to continue operating even after the pandemic.
The department has opened 4 473 posts for health professions to fight the pandemic for a period of 6 months.
