“Chick Fight” Now Showing On DStv BoxOffice

When Anna Wyncomb is introduced to an underground, all-female fight club in order to turn the mess of her life around, she discovers she is much more personally connected to the history of the club than she could ever imagine. The slick and gritty, female driven comedy, Chick Fight, has released as a cinema premiere on DStv BoxOffice today, on Monday 1 March 2021.

Chick Fight follows Anna (Malin Akerman), as she navigates a particularly challenging juncture in her life. She still hasn’t reconciled with the recent death of her adored mother. She’s just discovered that her loving and supportive father is gay, which she totally supports, but the deception cuts deep. Then, she accidentally burns down her uninsured coffee shop when she discovers a casually thrown joint and a spilled bottle of moonshine don’t exactly mix.

Knowing Anna needs to be abruptly shaken and stirred from her deep funk, her best friend Charleen (Dulcé Sloan) takes Anna to an all women underground fight club. It’s here that Anna encounters an eclectic cast of characters, including the intimidatingly perfect and most brutally efficient fighter of the club, Olivia (Bella Thorne), who quickly becomes a rival in and out of the ring. With the help of an eccentric and reclusive trainer Jack Murphy (Alec Baldwin), Anna slowly rediscovers herself, her inner strength and true purpose in the most primal of ways.

Lead actress Malin Akerman was named one of Variety’s “10 Actors to Watch” in 2007, and has subsequently become a household name with an impressive filmography including roles in Billions, I’ll See You In My Dreams, The Ticket, Rampage, To The Stars, The Heartbreak Kid, 27 Dresses, Couples Retreat, The Bang Bang Club. And more

Chick Fight carries a message that we can all take something from these days – if you learn to fight and never give up in the ring, then you’ll always beat the sh*t out of life!” said director  Paul Leyden. The film is a refreshing take on the female led comedy. It’s extremely funny, fast paced full of great fights and superb humour” said Benjamin Cowley, CEO, Gravel Road Distribution Group.
