Jack of all trades, Nigerian born- South African Based Producer/Vocalist, Peace Olugbo aka Captain Blu is progressively paving the way for the Dancehall Genre in South Africa. It is the season of new beginnings and Captain Blu is a new seasonal change for the South African music scenery.

Marking his territory within the Afrobeat/Dancehall genre and respected by his musical peers, the artiste explains the originality behind his stage name. “Captain derives from my determination on making things happen respectively within the music industry and ‘Blu’ is my birth name which means, ‘Believing in yourself’ and the two powerful words just blended so well together”, he says.

Having a strong grasp of Film/Music Directing through his father who was a professional photographer, Captain mentions that the beginning of his creative journey all began through his fathers knowledge and expertise in the field which garnered a new beginning for him. He left Nigeria in 2012 to further embark on his career and came to South Africa to investigate a scenery out of his comfort zone.

Known within the Nigerian scenery for his professional band piece performances and producing, in late 2011 Captain Blu opened up for legendary artists, T- Pain and Sisqo which further cemented his love for the craft and the spark to create a reach within the South African market.

Fast forward a couple of years later, in 2018, Captain dropped Zanga which was published under Ossia Records who have worked on a catalogue of artists such as AB Crazy and Nigerian counterpart – Noble Jay.  The song was playlisted on all major music channels such as Trace and Channel O and headlined on Gagasi FM Top 20 Countdown.

It is said that music is a great healer and Captain Blu believes his sole purpose on earth is too create good music which feeds the soul.

“I want to work with somebody that loves what I do and is good at what they do. I would love to work with the likes of Burna Boy, Simmy, Tellaman and Casper Nyovest. They all have a different sound and their work speaks for themselves.

“At the end of it all, I want my music to unite us as Africans and most importantly dance to the rhythm of the beat,” he says.

Blazon has marked the beginning of 2020 as the focal point of Afrobeat/Dancehall genre and that means celebrating African Music at its best!

“Red” is Captain Blu’s latest music offering. The Afro-Pop/Urban Dancehall single features Canadian-based Artist, Eyon. The Island Feel and Dancehall rhythmic beat and flow will surely get you “whining” and telling the DJ “PON DE REPLAY”.

The song generally speaks of love. Captain Blu and Eyon emphasize the beauty of a woman and the desire to give her all she wants. The repetitive words of  “Red” is easy to grasp and the Canadian and Nigerian synergy was a great collaboration as it portays no matter where you are or based in the world, we all have the same feeling when it comes to music.

But it doesn’t end here for the musical maestro as his fans can expect his follow up single: “Go Low” feature Sgananda. The Amapiano and Afrobeat/Dancehall mix is a first of its kind and Captain firmly believes its going too be a 2020 hit!
