South African DJ and radio personality Nkanyezi Kubheka has just released a brilliant music video for his new single, “Journey”. The video drop was accompanied with an exclusive premiere on the prestigious MTV Base “Spanking New Premiere” segment on Thursday.
The single features frequent collaborator Kiddyondebeat and talented vocalist, Sylvester, whose lyrics are inspired by the musical journey Nkanyezi and his team have been going through. Nkanyezi and Kiddyondebeat have worked together on several songs over the last year. “Kiddyondebeat is that brother you have asked GOD for. We met over the internet a year ago, shared the sounds we are making and it’s been a beautiful journey in the music scene ever since. We understand each other and know what we want, that makes it easier working together.”
The “Journey” music video is Nkanyezi’s first music video ever. Nkanyezi directed the music video himself and worked with an amazing producer and director duo, Sam and Josh. “I took a big risk in directing the music video myself and co-producing it. The idea is about my life and what I have been through – from growing up and having nothing but a plan, to reaching my goals and pushing hard into getting to where I am right now. The song talks about it all.”
Nkanyezi was recently crowned the “Budweiser King of the Decks”, where he performed on the Ultra South Africa main stage alongside world-class DJs such as Afrojack, Steve Aoki, and DJ Snake. His fan base had their daily dose of the DJ’s talent with his fresh content every week on UJFM 95.4, where he hosted a show called “The Sunday Fix” between 3pm – 6pm on Sundays. Prior to that, Nkanyezi hosted a weekday drive-time show on TransAfrica Radio.
“In 2021, people can expect more music and videos from Nkanyezi, the people only know the music, and have never seen the face, I would like to make this face more visible, lol. I might also drop a full album this year, it’s something I am busy working on and I cannot wait to see it happening.”
