Return Of Gazelle

For the past ten years Gazelle have been living and learning in New York City, in what might have seemed like a self-proclaimed exile whilst slowly disappearing from the South African airways. After making his mark on local culture with hits such as ‘Hosh Tokolosh’ and ‘Die Verlore Seun’ he chose to explore the world and return with the riches that it had offered.

He has always been deeply connected to his motherland and has been ever busy creating new chapters and renditions of his art through his self-titled act under Xander Ferreira. He reached great heights in his new home after performing as Gazelle on American TV Shows such as Glen O’brien’s legendary TV Party and headlining at the historic Bowery Ballroom.

In February of 2020 Gazelle travelled back to South Africa from his new home to record a Gazelle comeback album by the working title of ‘From Limpopo with Love’ and then got stranded for a year.

During this time he dug deep into his roots and started creating with new inspirations to create the return of Gazelle. A recent comeback collaboration with Bouwer Bosch and Freddy L with ‘Liefde Love Uthando’ has brought his voice back to the radio waves with a powerful remembrance of his previous cross cultural creations. Another single with Columbian producer Sinego was recently released through the label, Selected, in late 2020 and received more than a million plays in the first weeks on Spotify.

The first single from his upcoming album is titled ‘Goeiemore Suid Afrika’, for which he teamed up with Die Heuwels Fantasties, is a song reminiscent of an 80’s television show theme hit song that brings together a sound of nostalgia and lyrics that captures the meaning of the word ‘irony’ in Afrikaans, ” ‘nlag met ‘n traan ” which means, laughter with a tear.
