Afro Neo-Soul Duo, The Union Release Their Debut Single Ufel’ukwethenjwa

Afro Neo-Soul Music Duo, THE UNION partner up with Paradise Sound Systems to release their latest single “Ufel’ukwethenjwa”, a single inspired by their journey in life and the music scene. THE UNION comprises Gift Mahlangu (singer & songwriter) and Tshepo Sekele (producer, bassist, and songwriter) who hail from Daveyton, a township east of Johannesburg, South Africa

“Ufel’ukwethenjwa” is a fusion of neo-soul and hip-pop grooves that accompany vocals inspired by Zulu traditional Maskandi melodies with an urban feel. The title of the song loosely translated in Zulu means, “You must speak your mind, make your voice count and don’t be a people pleaser.”

The song is about affirming one’s position not to conform, not to allow people to suppress your voice at the expensive cost of trying to fit in with the crowd.

“Ufel’ukwethenjwa” is framed in a scenario where a person has a personal introspective conversation and questions themselves on whether or not they are going to let the opportunity to say something pass.

The song’s creation comprises Gift Mahlangu, Thozamile Shaw, Tshepo Sekele, and Fundile Dlamini as songwriters and Tshepo Sekele, Gift Mahlangu, and Robin Kohl as producers on the track to make the perfect recipe to get you in your feels.

THE UNION has released “Ufel’ukwethenjwa” in the hopes of inspiring people to be brave. THE UNION drew inspiration from their journey in life and the music scene, but also to create awareness for the need for people to have more of a voice, be heard more, and to not conform.
