Diepsloot Ecd Hope Restored By Rise Against Hunger & Tastic Rice

Mother’s Love is an ECD situated in Diepsloot. They care for over 50 underprivileged children at a time while their family try to put food on the table. Mother’s Love ECD in leadership by Principal Grace do their very best to cultivate these young minds aged 0-5 years despite many challenges that they face on a daily.

Rise Against Hunger have been supplying the ECD with meals from many other stakeholders such as Tastic for a number of months in their aim to eradicate hunger across different communities that are in dire need. A series of events took place leading up to the day where Tastic Rice’s gift of making over the ECD through a visual remake was complete. Part of this beautiful and fun filled makeover was Former Miss World 2014 Rolenee Strauss and Gospel congress Ntokozo Mbambo.

Prior to this on the 16 October 2020 at Mothers Love ECD during World Food Day, the spirit of true generosity was the order of the day. World Food Day is an international day, observed through events in more than 150 countries around the world, commemorates the launch of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and aims to raise awareness about food scarcity in underprivileged communities.

This year, Tastic Rice and Rise Against Hunger chose Mother’s Love ECD in Diepsloot as the site of this special event designed to bring joy to the children as well as the caregivers of the Early Childhood Development Centre. As part of their #TrueGenerosity campaign, Tastic served a variety of rice dishes inspired by the recipes of Basetsana Khumalo, Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung, Ntokozo Mbambo and Rolene Strauss. The aim of the campaign is to inspire fellow South Africans to be more giving, and demonstrate their own spirit of Ubuntu.

Rise Against Hunger is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to ending world hunger by 2030 in a sustainable manner through the support of its 66 000 beneficiaries, who receive five nutritional meals per week. They have been in partnership with Tastic for the past few years, with the rice brand contributing rice to millions of food parcels to ECD’s across South Africa.

‘As a brand with generosity at its core, it comes naturally for Tastic to give back in this manner, and sustainably make a difference in improving the lives of communities around the country by nurturing their young minds through supplying nutritious food” Says Thembi Sehloho, Marketing Director for Rice and Pasta at Tiger Brands.

“Rise Against Hunger has been in a meaningful relationship with Tastic for a few years now , and it has allowed us to grow our beneficiary base and bring us closer to our goal of eradicating food insecurity’ says Brian Nell, National Operations Manager at Rise Against Hunger. “We are honoured to be a part of today as it ties into our larger goal” he adds.

Tastic understands that the long terms needs of the ECD cannot be addressed in one day, and has made a further donation of food and personal care items from brands across the Tiger Brands stable, which was handed over to the ECD. In addition, they have also provided a new look, with fresh new coat of paint that will keep them in top condition for the upcoming months.
