Hussar Grill – Umhlanga’s Steak Haven

Right on the Gateway Shopping Mall strip in Umhlanga- Durban, lies an ultra-luxe dining experience, gorgeous oak and leather interior, unbeatable ambiance but the food together with the flavor does not size up – This glamorous ‘Steak Haven’ is called The Hussar Grill.

The restaurants on the Gateway strip/promenade are famously known for their Alfresco fine-dining experience all topped up with an intimate set-up which further creates a synergy Umhlanga dining has lived up too but The Hussar Grill is right there at the top!

The restaurant is impeccably beautiful. The interior features just the right amount of sophistication, complemented by strong oak ceilings and warm wooden floors with a dash of crisp white table settings not forgetting an array of Aperitif (appetizers) for your enjoyment whilst awaiting your order. The service is beyond friendly and professional and our waitron was not only well-versed with the menu but the wine selection.

The food offers the best in steaks and grills with A-grain fed beef all the way and for those with an exotic pallette, game cuts would be an excellent choice.

With beef being their biggest drawcard(except the interior and really everything else) a personal must have is their ‘Sirloin Steak with mustard mash and mushroom sauce’ – Divine! Yet if you like your seafood mains, their Calamari grilled in chilli and parsley will leave you salivating and back for seconds!

If you are into desserts- ‘Their Malva Pudding and Chocolate Fondant is the closest thing too confectionery perfection paired with with their famous Vanilla Hussar Grill Ice Cream….. Speechless!

With excellent quality of food and service, the prices aren’t cheap– Appetizers begin at R65 and mains can range from R165- R260 but the portion sizes are extremely generous and when paired with their award winning wine selection, it’s a definite match!
