DUT EEFSC wants Security Company out of DUT

Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) leading SRC at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) wants DUT to terminate it’s contract with Excellence Security, the security company deployed at the institution, with immediate effect, This follows incidents of students that died under their watch.
Last year, Mlungisi Madonsela, was shot by a security guard working for the same company. On February 5th this year, he died in hospital after months of fighting for his live. According the to SRC President, justice for Madonsela was never served as no arrests were made.
Just this month, on the 12th of September, Sandile Ndlovu, an 18 year old first year student in Industrial Engineering student was stabbed in the head on the premises of the DUT by an unknown suspect. The student was admitted at the Life Hospital in Durban where he later died.
The SRC said it is very concerned about the CCTV footage. “They told us that the cameras were not working, but when they need to arrest us, they always have a footage to help them do so.” Memela complained.
No one has been arrested in relation to Sandile’s stabbing however police have arrested some of those involved in protests demanding justice for both Mlungisi and Sandile. They were charged with malicious damage to property and public violence.
These students are set to appear at the Durban Magistrate Court on the 4th of December this year.
