Lions Roar After Early Setback
The DP World Lions, eager to defend their T20 Challenge title, have had a mixed campaign thus far.
Their opening match against arch-rivals, the Momentum Multiply Titans, was a tough contest at the DP World Wanderers. After succumbing to a 117-run defeat, Evan Jones’ valiant 83 was the only bright spot as the Lions failed to chase down 259, finishing on 141/8.
However, the Lions roared back with consecutive wins. Against the Dafabet Warriors, Lions posted a dominant 239/4, with Wandile Makwethu (55) leading the charge. The bowlers, led by Junaid Dawood’s impressive 5/30, restricted the Warriors to 177/6.
In their next match against Hollywoodbets Dolphins, the Lions again shone at home, defending a target of 156/5. Joshua Richards (38), Delano Potgieter (32*), and Evan Jones (29*) ensured the team posted a competitive total. A disciplined bowling effort, led by Junaid Dawood (3/22) and Kwena Maphaka (2/22), kept the Dolphins to 147/8, securing a hard-fought nine-run win.
Their next win came against the Knights, where they defended a modest total of 142/7. Wandile Makwethu (40) and Mitchell van Buuren (32) provided valuable contributions, and the Lions’ bowlers skittled the Knights for 95 in a clinical performance.
